Empowering Low-Income Communities with MBG Nutrition Program Kitchens

National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is set to hire workers from low-income communities, specifically those in extreme and general poverty (deciles 1 and 2), for the Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) as part of an initiative to boost local employment opportunities. According to Redy Hendra Gunawan, Special Staff to the National Nutrition Agency, the aim is to have at least 30% of the personnel in each SPPG unit coming from underprivileged households. The decision aligns with the President’s directive to ensure that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program not only provides food but also contributes to job creation. The BGN has already established 2,378 SPPG units in collaboration with 6,076 local economic institutions, such as cooperatives, village-owned enterprises, and MSMEs, with a total of 93,572 community volunteers involved in the program. Currently, the MBG Program has benefited 7,444,238 individuals nationwide, including various categories like early childhood education, elementary and high school students, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, toddlers, and more. To further expand the program’s reach, Redy announced the upcoming launch of an additional 2,401 SPPG units within the next 10 days to cater to an estimated 15 million beneficiaries across the country.
