Hasan Nasbi, Head of the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), has emphasized the importance of accelerating the implementation of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program in North Sumatra Province. During his visit to the Nutritional Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in Serdang Bedagai, Hasan highlighted the need to respond to the strong public demand for the MBG Program, especially in communities that have yet to benefit from it. Collaboration between the central government, the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), and regional leaders is crucial to ensure that school children can access free nutritious meals.
Moreover, Hasan encouraged regional governments to actively support the development of SPPGs, particularly in disadvantaged areas like the 3T regions. He emphasized the importance of local government support in determining suitable SPPG locations and driving construction efforts. Hasan also underlined the significance of private sector engagement through public-private partnerships to support SPPG development.
Governor Bobby Nasution expressed optimism that 200 SPPGs would soon be operational in North Sumatra, with a target of 1,732 SPPGs set by the central government for the province. Currently, 77 units have been established, and this number is expected to steadily increase. Bobby stated that each regency and municipality in North Sumatra is expected to build a minimum of three SPPGs, as part of the regional government’s contribution.
The goal is to have units built by local governments, not including those constructed by private partners. With the progress being made, North Sumatra is on track to meet the target in the near future. This collaborative effort between the government, regional leaders, and the private sector aims to ensure that more school children have access to free nutritious meals through the MBG Program.
