Prabowo’s Crackdown on Rice Distribution Cheating Costs Rp100 Trillion

President Prabowo Subianto made a firm stance against corrupt practices within Indonesia’s rice trade during the 27th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB). He highlighted the issue of companies repackaging and inflating the price of subsidized rice, estimating that such schemes cost the country up to Rp100 trillion annually. Prabowo emphasized the various subsidies provided by the government for rice production, only for the final product to be repackaged as ‘premium rice’ and sold at a higher price. He denounced this practice as criminal, stating that 212 rice milling companies have already been identified for such behavior. Prabowo called for immediate action from law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute those involved, emphasizing that this issue directly impacts the people and violates the Constitution. He pointed out that the losses incurred could have been used for essential public services and infrastructure development. Prabowo’s actions are not driven by personal motives but are in line with the constitutional mandate to regulate sectors vital to the state, including the rice industry.
