Indonesia and the European Union have successfully concluded the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) after a decade of negotiations. This breakthrough agreement allows Indonesian products to gain broader market access across Europe. In a joint press conference in Brussels, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen celebrated this achievement as a critical and strategic milestone amidst global uncertainties. The leaders emphasized the mutually beneficial nature of the agreement, highlighting the compatibility of their economic interests. Von der Leyen praised Indonesia’s role in global supply chains, especially in supporting the EU’s clean energy and digital transitions. CEPA will facilitate market access for Indonesian products in various sectors such as agriculture, automotive, services, and critical raw materials, ensuring socially and environmentally responsible sourcing. With a total market of 730 million people between Indonesia and the EU, the implementation of CEPA is expected to significantly impact trade relations in both regions. President Prabowo expressed hope for the implementation signing of CEPA to take place in Brussels, symbolizing a long-term commitment between the two partners.
