EU Announces Easier Visa Access for Indonesians After Prabowo’s Trip

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has announced a new visa policy that will make it easier for Indonesian citizens to enter the European Union. Starting immediately, Indonesians making their second visit to the EU will be eligible for a multi-entry Schengen visa. The announcement was made during a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Berlaymont Building in Brussels. Von der Leyen stated that this new policy aims to strengthen long-term ties between Indonesia and the EU, especially in areas such as education, investment, and social exchange. She emphasized that this visa policy is part of the people-to-people connections pillar, which is a key focus in the EU-Indonesia strategic partnership. President Prabowo welcomed the deepening of ties between the EU and Indonesia and emphasized the importance of trust and shared values in building long-term relationships. He expressed his hope for the completion and signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in Brussels and humorously mentioned his desire to return to the city for the signing ceremony. Overall, with the implementation of this new visa policy and the strengthening of economic ties, Indonesia and the European Union are entering a new phase of bilateral relations characterized by openness, cooperation, and mutual benefits for their citizens.
