President Prabowo Subianto has expressed his confidence in Indonesia’s ability to achieve net-zero carbon emissions within the set timeframe, positioning the country as one of the pioneers in reaching this milestone. He made this statement during a video conference focusing on the inauguration of renewable energy development and expansion of oil production in East Java. Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s efficiency in energy generation and the reduction of costly logistics chains, emphasizing the vital role of energy independence in the nation’s vision of sovereignty.
The Indonesian government’s strategy involves the launch of 55 new renewable energy projects, including geothermal power plants, to ensure the provision of clean, reliable, and efficient energy throughout the archipelago. President Prabowo praised the collaborative efforts of various ministries, regulatory bodies, and energy companies like Medco Energi and ExxonMobil in supporting Indonesia’s energy transition. While recognizing the substantial oil and gas reserves in the country, he underscored the significance of renewable energy sources, particularly solar power, in achieving energy self-sufficiency for communities nationwide.
Prabowo expressed his optimism for Indonesia’s future, highlighting solar energy as a promising source of hope for villages, districts, regencies, and remote islands. By harnessing renewable energy, Indonesia can lay the foundation for a more sustainable and brighter future for its citizens.
